Waste wise garbage, recycling, compost totes

Residents allowed extra garbage bags for spring collection

The season for spring cleaning has arrived and to help residents dispose of any extra garbage, the City of Saint John is allowing solid waste customers to place two additional bags curbside without any additional charge.

Residents on a weekly pickup schedule can put their extra bags of garbage at the curb the week of May 20, while residents with a bi-weekly pickup schedule can place their extra bags of garbage at the curb on their regular pickup day between May 20 and May 31. Additional garbage bags do not need a bag tag.

Solid waste customers in Saint John have two opportunities per year to put additional bags of garbage curbside at no cost to them, once during the holiday season and again in the spring.

While this time of year does tend to generate more waste, the City of Saint John would also like to encourage residents to continue to reduce what they throw in the garbage by taking advantage of curbside recycling and compost as well as other waste material programs available here: fundyrecycles.com.

All Waste Wise program details can be found on the City’s website including an FAQ, bag tag vendor locations and sorting guides.

The City also has a Bulky Item Pickup program that will collect large household items including furniture, mattresses, barbecues, carpets, and more at no cost. You must pre-register for this service by calling Customer Service at (506) 658-4455 between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
