Residents asked to prepare for rainfall, sleet and potential for freezing rain 

With rain and colder temperatures in the forecast for Saint John, the Saint John Emergency Management Organization (SJ-EMO) is asking residents to be prepared. The current forecast is for weather conditions to bring a significant mix of rain and wet snow on Wednesday evening through to Thursday morning. As temperatures drop overnight there is the possibility of a flash freeze scenario where conditions could transition from wet roads and sidewalks to icy surfaces. Please be aware and be cautious when walking or driving. The City will continue to monitor updated forecasts. 

The City’s Public Works and Transportation crews are prepared to respond to either street flooding, salting, or plowing as needed. The SJ-EMO will monitor the weather and respond if necessary. 

What you can do to help: 

1. If able, clear catch basins and gutters from any obstructions near homes. 
2. Tie down or move loose items around your property. 
3. Use caution and be safe around coastal areas. 
4. Reduce driving speeds, keep headlights on, observe all posted signage and barricades and avoid driving through any areas that are covered in water. 
5. Prepare a 72-hour emergency kit.
