Saint John Receives $10,000 Tree Canada Grant for "Blossom Buffet" Project

The City of Saint John is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Tree Canada for the "Blossom Buffet" project. This initiative, supported in partnership with CN, will see the planting of 43 fruit trees in Queen Square West, enhancing our urban canopy and providing fresh produce to the community.

The "Blossom Buffet" project aims to beautify our streets, promote environmental sustainability, and foster community engagement. The selection of fruit trees includes apple, pear, and cherry varieties.

“We are incredibly grateful to Tree Canada and CN for this generous grant," said Barb Crawford, Operations Manager. "The 'Blossom Buffet' project is a ripe opportunity to enhance our urban spaces and work toward a sustainable future for Saint John.”

The planting will take place over the coming weeks, marking an important milestone in our broader urban forestry initiatives, which includes the goal of planting 1,000 trees by 2032.

"Tree Canada is proud to support the City of Saint John's 'Blossom Buffet' project," said Nicole Hurtubise, CEO, Tree Canada. "Projects like this demonstrate the power of community-driven environmental stewardship and highlight the incredible benefits that urban forests can bring to our cities. We are excited to see the positive impact these fruit trees will have on Queen Square West and the community at large."
