Temporary closure of sections of the City pedway planned this weekend to help ensure safe social distancing

As part of a continued commitment to the health and safety of the public, the City will be temporarily closing sections of the pedway in advance oftwo scheduled hockey games at TD Station this weekend to ensure safe social distancing can be achieved for all members of the public. During the closures, the City will focus on providing level one priority snow clearing at all external public doors, along with sidewalks leading to and from TD Station to ensure clear and accessible alternative routes.

Operational changes around temporary pedway closures were initiated in December 2021 in response to COVID requirements for social distancing when major events draw large crowds in and around City facilities. The operational changes require that sections of the pedways leading to and from TD Station and the Canada Games Aquatic Centre be closed 90 minutes before, during, and 90 minutes after a major event at either facility. Signage will be in place within the pedway to advise the public.

During normal daily operations, social distancing is achievable within the pedways. However, for events that draw large crowds, social distancing cannot be assured. With the province currently at Level 2 of the COVID safety Winter Plan, the City is required to take action to adhere to public health measures.

The pedways listed below will close on Friday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m. and reopen Saturday, February 5 during regular hours. The Canada Games Aquatic Centre pedway will be closed on Sunday, February 6 at 1:30 p.m. and reopen Monday morning during regular hours.

The TD Station pedway will be closed, as per usual, on Sunday, February 6 and reopen on Monday, February 7 during regular hours.
