Parking bans help crews safely remove snow and keep streets clear and safe during the winter months.

When are parking bans declared?

  • Parking bans can happen any time during winter when snow or ice needs to be removed from city streets.  

How to Prepare for Parking Bans:

Three Saint John Parking lots will be cleared for use by on-street parking residents. For a map of the parking ban lots, please visit the related documents section here.

  • Peters Street  
  • Sydney Street (Service New Brunswick)
  • Vulcan Street

Vehicles must be removed from all the above parking lots by 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and by noon on weekends and holidays. Vehicles remaining in the lots after these times may be towed at the owner's risk and expense.

The Peel Plaza Parking Garage offers a $5.00 overnight parking rate for nights when a parking ban is declared. This rate is valid only between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. the following morning. Regular parking rates will be charged before and after these hours.   

 

How you'll know a ban is in place:

You'll be notified by 3:45 p.m. on the day of the ban, through:

 

If vehicles are left on the street during the parking bans: 

Any vehicles remaining on-street after 11 p.m. and before 7 a.m. when a parking ban has been declared WILL BE TICKETED AND/OR TOWED at the owner's risk and expense. Parking ban tickets start at $60.00.
