City of Saint John begins educational campaign for employees as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaches

The City of Saint John recently announced that it will be joining other communities across Canada on September 30 to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday for municipal employees. By marking the day, City employees will have an opportunity to pause and reflect.

As the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaches, the City of Saint John has begun an educational campaign for employees called Truth and Reconciliation Moments. The campaign includes daily communication to all employees leading up to September 30 to provide reflections, information and resources about the history of Indigenous peoples, residential schools, and the need for Truth and Reconciliation.

“The City of Saint John wants to ensure our employees are provided with resources that will enable them to become active participants in Truth and Reconciliation,” said Mayor Donna Reardon. “This is a reflection of the City’s commitment to recognize, learn and respond to this important journey as a path to understanding our country’s past as we move together into the future.”
