City of Saint John marks National Indigenous Peoples Day

The City of Saint John invites residents to join in recognizing National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, June 21, with a community celebration taking place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Boardwalk Amphitheatre at Ihtoli‑maqahamok – The Gathering Space, 1 Market Square.

Held in partnership with Double Curve Media, the event will honour the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This year’s celebration will feature a performance by the Four Generations Singers and will be hosted by MC Oscar Baker III.

National Indigenous Peoples Day provides an opportunity for all Canadians to learn, reflect, and celebrate the diverse Indigenous communities that continue to shape our region and our country. Coinciding with the summer solstice, June 21 has long been a day of cultural significance for many Indigenous peoples, marking a time of gathering, ceremony, and celebration.

The City of Saint John is proud to support this important day and encourages residents and visitors to attend. The event is free, inclusive, and open to all.

Celebrate Canada

Saint John residents are also invited to take part in the City’s Canadian Multiculturalism Day and Canada Day events as part of the broader Celebrate Canada period, which runs from June 21 to July 1 each year. Celebrate Canada highlights the rich cultural diversity, history, and shared values that shape our nation.

Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27) recognizes the diverse cultural backgrounds that make up Canadian society, often featuring music, food, art, and performances.

Canada Day (July 1) marks the anniversary of Confederation with community gatherings, concerts, and fireworks.

Celebrate Canada is a time for communities to come together, reflect on shared values, and celebrate the diverse cultural heritages that contribute to Canada’s identity. It fosters inclusivity, understanding, and national pride, and the City of Saint John is proud to welcome residents and visitors to join in these celebrations.
