HAF Applications Open

Housing Accelerator Fund grant applications will open November 1, 2024

At its meeting on October 28, 2024, Saint John Council approved the new Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) Grant Program. The program will provide funding through three grant streams to help incentivize the creation of more housing supply within fully serviced areas of the city over the next three years.

The three grant streams are:

  • Construction Challenges Grant: Up to $150,000 to support development that might not be achieved through normal market forces by addressing known construction challenges specific to Saint John.
  • Missing Middle Housing Grant: Up to $150,000 to incentivize the construction of missing middle housing forms that are more inherently sustainable and affordable through smaller lots and denser developments that make efficient use of land.
  • Revitalizing Rental Stock: Up to $50,000 to incentivize the revitalization of existing rental stock and retention of such stock at greater levels of affordability. Eligible projects include developments who provide proof of support for Housing NB’s RRAP program, or vacant building redevelopment by a non-profit organization.

Applications are available through the City’s website. The first intake round will run from November 1 to November 30, 2024. Funding will be committed through quarterly grant cycles based upon funding availability.

Interested parties are encouraged to contact the City to determine eligibility of their project. Further information about the Grant Program can be found on the City’s website or by contacting affordable@saintjohn.ca.
