Charlotte Street Rendering

Important changes to the City’s Traffic and Parking By-Law

Following the approval of Common Council, several sections of the City’s Traffic By-Law and Parking By-Law have been updated in relation to Charlotte Street from Union Street to Broad Street.

The Traffic By-Law regulates the motoring and pedestrian traffic within Saint John. Items covered in the by-law include parking restrictions, traffic flow regulations, school zones, speed limits, pedestrian areas and other regulations.

Listed below are important changes effective following the completion of the Charlotte Street Reconstruction Project in coordination with on-street regulation signage:

  • Removal of alternate side parking
  • Addition of a bicycle lane on the west side of the street
  • On-street parking in certain areas only on east side of the street
  • The flow of traffic will also be changed from Duke Street to St. James Street, making Charlotte Street one-way (southbound) from Union Street to St. James Street.

For the sections of Charlotte Street currently under construction (Union Street to Princess Street and St. James Street to Broad Street) the changes in signage and street painting will be made as the sections are re-opened to the public.  For the remaining section of Charlotte Street from Princess Street to St. James Street, City staff will be making the changes before the end of October.

Please watch for these signage and traffic pattern changes.
