Season Closure of the Free Outdoor Community Rink at Ihtoli maqahamok – The Gathering Space

The City is advising residents that the free outdoor community rink at Ihtoli maqahamok – The Gathering Space is now closed for the remainder of the season.

A mechanical issue with one of the compressors that maintains the ice surface has reduced our ability to keep conditions safe and reliable. Although backup equipment is available, it would need to operate at an unsustainably high level (particularly with warmer afternoon temperatures) increasing the risk of further strain or damage to the system.

Out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure the long‑term integrity of the rink system, the decision has been made to end the skating season early. Repairs will be completed so the rink is fully ready to welcome skaters next winter.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and thank everyone for another great season on the ice.
