Is there a sidewalk you find icy and dangerous? We maintain 61% of sidewalks in the City of Saint John. Check out our Winter Management Plan Interactive Map to see if your sidewalk is maintained throughout the winter months.
Kids need play! Through outdoor play, kids learn balance, agility, and coordination; they learn to express and test themselves; they learn how to form relationships with others; they learn the value of physical fitness; and of course, they have fun! Almost any outdoor space can satisfy a kid’s need to play. But designated playgrounds and splash pads are safe, fun, and popular spots for Saint John kids and families to gather.
Saint John maintains one regional playground, six district playgrounds and several neighbourhood playgrounds in addition to those located on school grounds. Playgrounds are regularly inspected to meet national safety standards.
Saint John’s three splash pads delight kids with water gun stations, fountains and spouts, bucket-dumping stations and colourful mist-spraying rainbows. They operate daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. during the summer months.
Was your garbage not collected today? You can confirm your scheduled collection date here
If it was indeed your regular collection date and we missed your garbage, please check bags for any rejection stickers. Garbage must be placed in large, non-transparent bags, not weighing more than 40lbs.
Was your compost not collected today? We have made improvements to our compost collection process, and the lids are no longer left open after collection. Before reaching out to us, please check your bin to ensure it has not been emptied. Also, you can confirm your scheduled collection date here.
If it was indeed your regular collection date and we missed your compost, please inspect the container for any rejection stickers. Compost Bins cannot weigh more than 100lbs—and grass clippings can often add a lot of weight to a compost bin.
Did you arrive home to discover your compost bin missing or damaged? Sometimes bins will accidentally be crushed while being emptied. Our staff will make a note with Fundy Region Solid Waste, and a new bin will be issued to your home within a few weeks. For further information, or to request a bin repair or replacement, you can reach out to Fundy Region Solid Waste at 738-1212.

Residents who live in single family homes are eligible for a bulky item pickup—three items, twice per year, or one large six-item pickup. Residents who live in a multiunit (four units and under) building are eligible for six items twice per year. With a multiunit building, we must speak with the owner of the property or landlord—this ensures other tenants in the building are offered the opportunity to participate. Items must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the collection date. It is very important to call with any changes the Monday before the pickup.
Is there a home in your neighbourhood that you find unsightly? Would you like to make a formal complaint? If so, you must leave your contact details—it cannot be anonymous. To reach out to the One Stop Development Shop, please complete a service request form, with details and photos, here.
Being active is about more than physical fitness. When we hike a trail, compete in a sport, or play at a park—whatever our age or ability—we strengthen community bonds and improve our health. Your inquiry is important to us. Your request will be reviewed and processed accordingly.
