Where can I buy them, am I permitted to use them, and what is the fee?

The sale and discharge of fireworks within the City of Saint John is prohibited by Municipal By-law, C-7, except by permit issued by the Fire Chief.

The process of obtaining a permit for a Display Fireworks event in the City of Saint John starts with contacting the Fire Prevention Division of the Fire Department at (506) 658-2962 or fireprevention@saintjohn.ca.

Applications for a Display Fireworks Permit can only be made by a competent operator, or groups, company, or organization who is engaging a competent operator to set-up and oversee the discharge of the Display Fireworks.

The fee of processing an application through to permit issuance is $150.00 + HST or as specified in the By-law Respecting Fees for Fire Protection Services in the City of Saint John.
