Island View/Fairville is a classic suburban community, with winding residential streets, sizeable lots, and plaza shopping. Although residents of this community often rely on a vehicle to get around, most of the area is walkable and has good transit options. The west side retail area is a short distance away.
There’s a mix of housing here, but the majority of homes are single family, built mostly pre-1960, and in the 1980s. Homes have spacious lawns, and since much of the community is a hill, many enjoy views of Manawagonish Island—or Mahogany Island. Both names are used for this nature preserve about a kilometre off Saint’s Rest Beach.
Manawagonish Road is a central and visibly defining feature of this community. The enchanting maples that line the road were planted in 1932 with the support of the town of Fairville. In the summer, their branches create a beautiful canopy for pedestrians and motorists below.
Greendale, the original subdivision in this area began in the boggy farmland north of Manawagonish Road in 1959. The 22 acres had 255 homes built on it by Mollins Housing Ltd.
